Our Artist of the week is Beckah Amani.
Beckah’s music blends indie, soulful pop, and orchestral vibes, and her single, ‘I Don’t Know Why I Don’t Leave You‘ showcases her talent perfectly. Her style is reminiscent of artists like Raye and Cleo Sol, and she’s not afraid to push boundaries with her music.
‘I Don’t Know Why I Don’t Leave You‘ was written by Amani and co-produced by Josh Fountain (BENEE) and Tony Buchen (Troye Sivan, G Flip). The track has a mainstream pop sound, mixing piano with an insistent beat and Amani’s incredible voice.

Beckah Amani was born in Tanzania and grew up in various parts of Australia, bringing a rich mix of cultural influences to her sound. Her household was filled with East African music and diverse artists like Tracy Chapman and Nina Simone, which all contribute to her unique style.
She was nominated for Emerging Songwriter of the Year at the 2024 APRA Awards and was featured in the NME 100 as an artist to watch in 2023. Her EP, ‘April,’ which features ‘I Don’t Know Why I Don’t Leave You‘, has received high praise and brought her to the stage at major music festivals. Her music is a beautiful reminder to pay attention to the stories that matter.
