Richer Unsigned Session – October 2018
After a busy summer our Richer Unsigned lunchtime sessions kicked off with a bang, featuring two artists from Metropolis Music‘s October playlist.
First up was London based Shunaji, who used a combination of samples and beats as a bed for her vocal talents to shine. Her conscious rapping left the audience mesmerised, partly due to her captivating stage presence. Shunaji tells us there are lots of projects in the works for 2019, so keep your eyes and ears open!
So what did Shunaji think of Richer Unsigned? “It’s really valuable, it doesn’t force an artist to chase a company for a contract, allowing them to be independent. It allows you the flexibility to really explore and find your own sound.”
Next up was Portslade based Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn. Harvey Gunn was working an Ableton based setup, bringing loops in and out to weave around Frankie’s lyrics, reminiscent of Mike Skinner/The Streets. The combination of his mellow tones and beautifully crafted production left the audience wanting more!
When asked if they thought the platform that Unsigned offers was beneficial to artists, the boys said “For sure. It’s a good platform for people that might not have that ‘big name’ just yet, something that helps out in the difficult ‘in-between’ stage.
The duo recently finished off a UK tour, with numerous sold out dates, including two nights at London’s Corsica Studios. Watch for new music in the new year.
