Glass Shields
Glass Shields are a British electronic three piece hailing from Newcastle via Ibiza and London. Consisting of brother and sister Oliver and Grace Tucker plus Luke Taylor, they have developed an intense electro sound that takes in influences ranging from Philip Glass to Interpol. Oliver’s layers of drums, samples and keyboards are the perfect backdrop for Grace’s lyrics about love, loss and longing while Luke’s guitar deftly weaves among the melodies to produce a powerful yet delicate appeal. Siblings Oliver and Grace’s formative years on the White Isle meant that 4/4 beats have undoubtedly suffused their very being while Luke’s earliest influences include Arctic Monkeys, Foals and The Kills. Oliver and Luke met while on a foundation course at the London College of Communication and both subsequently studied graphics, bonding over a shared passion for music and design whilst listening to listening to Koreless and Sepalcure. Songs such as ‘Give You All I Got’ and ‘Fall for Me’ showcase a richness and texture to Grace’s voice that recalls early 80s acts such as Yazoo and Everything But The Girl, and when combined with Oliver’s contemporary production values make Glass Shields a band that could easily call the likes of Shura and Lapsley their peers. The band has an ethereal pop sensibility that can clearly be heard and recalled throughout each of their songs.
