Artist Of The Week – Kamikaze Girls by Guitar Quarterly

This week’s Artist Of The Week is Kamikaze Girls, chosen by Guitar Quarterly.

Lucinda and Conor are The Kamikaze Girls, one of the most exciting bands in the UK at the moment. Their debut, DIY release the “Sad E.P.” contains music boasting influences as diverse as L7 and the Cure, Bikini Kill and Michael Jackson, for beneath their screaming Riot Grrrl fuzz-laden, lo-fi power-scapes, there is a beating heart of good, old fashioned songwriting that elevates them way above the competition.

But it isn’t just the music or the playing, they genuinely care, they care about their fans and they really do believe that music, their music can be a power for good. The Sad E.P. talks about mental illness and tells us all it is OK to be sad, and they are right because without the darkness, there can’t ever be moments in the sun.

Artist Of The Week – Jess Kemp

Manchester-based Jess Kemp is this week’s Artist Of The Week with her song ‘Stars’. This track features in Kemp’s debut EP and is an acoustic guitar driven ballad bursting with energy. The contemplative verses are juxtaposed by a double time chorus which really packs a punch. Take a listen:

Artist Of The Week – Bring The Wolf

Artist Of The Week this week is Harrogate rock ’n’ roll blues band Bring The Wolf, with their track ‘The Devil Inside’.
It’s a hook-filled indie/rock anthem underpinned by a churning guitar riff (rhythmically spelling out ‘The Devil Inside’!). Catchy chanting vocals jump out at you right from the word go and the chorus leaves you wanting more. Take a listen:

Artist Of The Week – Violetic

London-based Violetic are this week’s Artist Of The Week.  We took a listen to their latest offering, ‘Figure It Out’…
Its atmospheric beginnings sow the seeds for a Radiohead-influenced 6-minute journey.  Drums play a huge part in this track, underpinning energy throughout long vocal phrases, and a climactic ending shapes a performance that is well worth a listen.

Chloe Leigh – Artist Of The Week

This week’s Artist Of The Week is Chloe Leigh from Wimbledon with her song ‘Ghosts’.  She is one of two artists performing for Richer Unsigned @ Barclays Eagle Labs in Brighton on 25th August 2016.  For more details and tickets click here.

Ghosts is a ballad full of emotion led by a strong vocal, great melodies and lyrics.  It is a testament to good songwriting – demonstrating that an acoustic guitar and voice can work in its own right without excessive production.
