Artist Of The Week: Motherland
Our Artist Of The Week is: Motherland
This rock five-piece is based in the north east and combines a range of sounds and styles: “We are unapologetically loud and bring a breath of fresh air to the alternative rock/indie scene. We’re all seasoned musicians, sharpening our tools through years of hard work, commitment and touring.”
This has resulted in a highly polished and impactful sound, not only through the powerful roar of instruments, but also through their sullenly melancholic-yet-relatable lyrical themes. Motherland also has a nostalgic sound that is fresh but familiar, with a bit of Del Amitri, and maybe even some Billie Joe Armstrong and Green Day vibes.
Listen to their latest single ‘Ocean Drive’ here:
‘Ocean Drive’ is a complete and total summertime anthem, with lyrics describing the euphoria of love that is experienced as the narrator completely gives himself to someone else, and how that is actually a pretty daunting and vulnerable act. Compared to their other singles, ‘Ocean Drive’ definitely has a stronger pop-rock influence.
