Our Artist of the Week is Wake the River.
‘Climb a Tree‘, the final track from Wake the River‘s new EP, blends dark, spacey, folk blues with energetic, groove-driven passages. The song begins in a place of introspection, with Elizabeth Freeborn’s ethereal vocals weaving through shadowy melodies.
Wake the River, comprising vocalist Elizabeth Freeborn, songwriter Amy Woodburn and guitarist-percussionist Ashley Height, draw on a rich tapestry of influences, from sixties folk and rock to global folk styles. The addition of jazz drummer Matt Griffiths adds an organic, rhythmic touch that anchors the track’s graceful qualities.
