Artist Of The Week is Eve Simpson
Our Artist of The Week is Eve Simpson
A beautiful songwriter, storyteller, and collaborative community artist from South Shields, Eve’s Geordie lilts can now be heard in the Celtic surroundings of Edinburgh. The creative inspiration in her new releases arises from being torn between two places, romanticising her 20s, and her ongoing fascination with people and their stories. Her songs are influenced by the piano-centered storytelling of Carole King, soaring vocals of Kate Bush, and the honest lyricism of her hero, Joni Mitchell. From magic, to love, to accentism, Eve writes about everyone and everything, as a means to navigate the world.
Listen to her latest release, ‘The Strangest Company‘ here:
A firm crowd favourite, The Strangest Company offers an ethereal and heartfelt narrative of longing to fit in. Writing the track after attending a house party in Marchmont during her second year of university, she speaks of feeling completely out of place, while also being aware of the possibility of learning something new from people and situations very different to her. Rich in Geordie tones and beautiful, yet clever, production, the pizzicato lines between the fiddle and piano mimic the ticking of a clock, as time to fit in runs out. .
